More about our Mineral Cosmetics

You can even experiment with our mineral makeup and create your own products. You can blend different foundation colours to make your own shade, you can add minerals to a clear lip balm to make your own tinted shade and, I have not yet tried this, you can add eye shadow colours to clear nail varnish to make your own co-ordinated look!

Our foundation powders are not drying despite being a powder. For those of you with dry skin it seals in moisture but for those of you with oily skin it does not block pores and will not “break up” during the day, but will remain flawless.

How to apply our foundation

If you are new to mineral foundation it will only take a couple of practices for you to perfect your technique in applying a flawless foundation finish. With the lid still on the jar, tip the jar over and then back again to release a little of the powder onto the sifter. Take the lid off and swirl your flat top brush around the sifter to pick up some powder. Tap off any excess as you only want a little powder on your brush, you can build up your foundation in layers until you achieve the finish you prefer. Turn your brush upside down and tap it on a hard surface to settle the powder into the brush. Finally, buff the foundation onto your face in small circular movements, and repeat this process until you achieve the look you want.

If you want to cover a particular area with blemishes or redness use a soft, shading brush to apply small amounts directly onto the problem area, and blend in well.

If you prefer a liquid foundation, or a concealer, try adding a little powder to your usual moisturiser and then apply.

Ingredients

Our mineral foundation may contain any or all of the following ingredients:

Titanium Dioxide: a natural inorganic mineral, brilliant white in colour with many times the covering power of zinc oxide. Used as a colorant and absorbent. It can successfully reflect UVA, UVB and UVC rays. The presence of this ingredient helps prevent skin cancer and premature aging of the skin.

Micronized zinc oxide: a mineral compound of zinc and oxygen, zinc oxide is a mild antiseptic agent used to protect, soothe and heal the skin. It contributes to the opacity, coverage and colour in foundation. Because it has the ability to reflect UVA and UVB rays, it is an ingredient often found in sunscreens.

Iron oxides: a naturally occurring compound of iron and oxygen found in a wide range of colours from yellow to black. These fine powders are used to create various foundation colours, produced by mixing these groups of iron oxides in different ratios.

Mica: a naturally occurring silicate found in a variety of rocks. Easily distinguishable by its shape, it comes in thin, papery sheets. Mica has a natural iridescence and varies in colour from brownish green and blue to colourless. Cleopatra used crushed mica in her cosmetics thousand of years ago. Look for cosmetics (eye shadows, lip colours etc) with a high mica concentration and little other ingredients.

Ultramarine blue: is an intense rich blue powder created by finely crushing the semi-precious stone, lapis lazuli. Lapis lazuli is a deep azure blue colour and the stone was treasured by ancient Babylonian and Egyptian civilizations. It was often worn by royalty and used by Egyptians for cosmetics.

Kaolin clay: originally came from the Kaolin Hill in Jiangxi Province in China. A white powder insoluble in water, it absorbs oils secreted from the skin. Clays are used to draw our impurities and toxins through absorption and is great for insect bites and stings. Because clays can aid in removing old sebum that is clogged in pores, it is often used in face masks.

Our mineral eye shadows, blusher and bronzer contain mica, iron oxides and titanium oxide.

You can use the eye shadows to create eyeliners by either wetting your brush with water before dipping it in the powder, or by using a tiny amount of your moisturiser before dipping it in the powder and then carefully applying where you want.
